Bio-Reference Laboratories to Open its New State-of-the-Art
Laboratory Addition in Elmwood Park

Beth R. Gorin, President of the Bergen County Economic Development Corporation, Announces the Expansion of this World Class Bio-Life Science Company

Bio-Reference Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQ: BRLI) will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new state-of-the-art laboratory addition at 481 Edward H. Ross Drive in Elmwood Park, NJ, on February 3, 2005 at 10:00 am. Bergen County Executive Dennis McNerney will join Bergen County Economic Development Corporation (BCEDC) President Beth R. Gorin, Bio-Reference Laboratories Chairman, President and CEO Marc D. Grodman, M.D., and BCEDC Board members to celebrate Bio-Reference Laboratories’ expansion.

Bio-Reference Laboratories is the largest independent regional clinical laboratory operating in the Northeast with major market positions in physician offices, nursing homes and clinics. BusinessWeek recently ranked the company 16 on its listing of the 100 best hot growth companies; Fortune Small Business placed Bio-Reference at number six on its ranking of the 100 fastest growing small companies; and most recently Forbes ranked the Company #26 in its 2004 list of the Best Small Companies. The company maintains specialized focused market offerings that are national in scope. These include GenPath, its cancer and genomics laboratory, and an expanding correctional health program. PSIMedica, a business unit of the company, is a clinical knowledge management (CKM) organization offering an array of health information solutions for reducing healthcare costs and improving quality performance based on claims data, enrollment data, prescription data and laboratory data. Bio-Reference Laboratories also provides a comprehensive connectivity solution to physicians and laboratories nationwide through CareEvolve, its web based healthcare portal.

“The County of Bergen and the BCEDC have created an atmosphere where bio-life science companies can thrive.” said Dr. Grodman. “Our presence in the region that we serve is constantly growing. With our new laboratory addition, we can better serve our clients, increase our market share and look forward to another year of sustained growth and opportunity.”

Bergen County Executive, Dennis McNerney sees this expansion as an important advance. “The County of Bergen and the BCEDC are working hard to position Bergen County as the nation’s leading center of bio-life science technology. Since it is the largest regional clinical laboratory serving the greater New York area, the expansion at Bio-Reference Laboratories is another positive step toward achieving our goal.”

“In 2002, more than one third of all new medicines approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration were developed by New Jersey-based companies. New Jersey is also headquarters to 15 of the 20 largest pharmaceutical companies in the world with over 80,000 life science employees and 22,000 doctoral scientists and engineers leading the way in bio-life science research. Bergen County and the BCEDC want to make sure that our bio-life science corporations continue to lead the industry in discovery and success,” said BCEDC President, Beth R. Gorin.
