12/06 - Camp Update December 06

Dear Friends,

It's been an extraordinary year at American Friends of Jordan River Village, all leading up to the start of construction and, not too far ahead, the long-anticipated completion and opening of Jordan River Village in 2008. It won't be long before our beautiful village is filled with the sounds of children's laughter, fulfilling the dreams we have all shared.

Our American friends continue to be generous and have helped us to raise $17 million of our $20 million target for construction and initial operations.   We are grateful for the support many of you have given and for your continued vigilance and commitment to our unprecedented initiative.  Your belief in JRV will benefit thousands of seriously ill children and their families for many years to come.

On December 13th, AFJRV was honored to be the beneficiary of the premiere screening of Rocky Balboa, a memorable Hollywood extravaganza that resulted in contributions of over $400,000 for our project.   Our thanks to Harry Sloan, CEO of MGM and the husband of AFJRV Board member Florence Sloan, for making this magic. Thanks, also, to Sherry Lansing, AFJRV Board member and former CEO of Paramount Pictures, for her counsel and support. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone and other Hollywood luminaries attended the event in honor of JRV.   Enclosed please find a picture of our chairman with Rick Sands and Harry Sloan of MGM, and Sylvester Stallone, the star of Rocky Balboa.

We have recently retained Tavrow|Lund Consulting, LLC to work with us in developing our infrastructure and positioning us for the successful expansion and cultivation of our donor base.   The firm's principals, Rick Lund and Barbara Tavrow, bring expertise in branding and fundraising for non-profits and are eager to meet and engage many of you as we work together for AFJRV's future viability and build its base of support.

Look for more spectacular events for JRV next year—including events in a city near you.  And remember, if you travel to Israel over the next year, please contact us to arrange for a visit to the site before your eyes.

All of us at American Friends of Jordan River Village thank you for understanding the importance of helping our children in Israel and join in wishing you a Healthy and Peaceful New Year!

Kind regards,

Michael Finkelstein
