United
Water provides water services to about 750,000 people throughout
Bergen and Hudson counties. The company was founded as Hackensack
Water Company in 1869 and changed its name to United Water New
Jersey in 1995 to reflect the relationship with its parent company,
United Water Resources,
one of the nation's largest water services companies.
Throughout its history United Water has used state-of-the-art
technology to provide customers with the highest quality water
and service.
- In 1929, the company pioneered the use of powdered activated
carbon to improve the taste of drinking water.
- In 1986, the company became the first water utility to implement
automatic meter reading technology.
- In 1989, the company opened one of the nation's first ozone
water purification plants in Haworth, New Jersey.
Today, United Water continues to use advanced technology to provide
customers the highest quality water and service.
Public
Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) is one of the largest
combined electric and gas companies in the United State and is
New Jersey’s oldest and largest publicly owned utility.
In 1903, amalgamating more than 400 gas, electric, and transportation
companies in New Jersey formed the Public Service Corporation.
In 1948, it was renamed Public Service Electric and Gas Company.
This corporation is the largest subsidiary of PSE&G and currently
serves nearly three quarters of New Jersey’s population
in a service area consisting of a 2,600 square-mile diagonal corridor
across the state from Bergen County to Gloucester Counties. PSE&G
is the largest provider of gas and electric service, servicing
1.6 million gas customers and 1.9 million electric customers in
more than 300 urban, suburban, and rural communities, including
New Jersey’s six largest cities. While new business ventures
will pay a vital role in the long-term growth and strength of
the company, PSE&G remains primarily a regulated gas and electric
delivery company.
The contact number for developers or contractors looking for
service hook ups is 1(800) 436-7734.
