BAYONNE’S
“SOUND CITY” HOLDS RIBBON-CUTTING ON 10/25 AT
NEW, EXPANDED ELECTRONICS STORE
BAYONNE,
NJ - October 18, 2002 – Sound City, electrifying Bayonne
customers since 1979, will re-charge its clientele with a
brand new look.
Formerly at 510 Broadway, the new Sound City can be found
at 512-514 Broadway in a newly built, expanded retail space.
The four-story building houses Sound City on the first floor,
administrative offices on the second, with the top two floors
reserved as residential space.
The Ribbon-Cutting at Sound City takes place on Friday, October
25th at 11 a.m. The Bayonne Mayor and Council have been invited.
Light refreshments will be served. Giveaways include free
flashlights and key chains. A raffle, with three prizes available,
will begin selling at the ribbon-cutting and will be drawn
on November 2nd.
The Sorbara Family emigrated from Italy in 1966 and settled
in Bayonne. Four brothers were raised there, and their natural
kinship extended to their adopted city. After earning college
degrees, Dominic, Ralph, Michele and Grazio decided to establish
Sound City. Fellow Sound City co-owner Grazio expressed “faith
in Bayonne and in the avenue” – meaning, of course,
Broadway, Bayonne’s main retail street. The unfortunate
passing of one brother, Michele, will be acknowledged, as
well as his efforts at helping build this successful family
business. The new building will be named after him. Two younger,
enterprising Sorbaras – both named Nicola, and sons
of Ralph and Michele – demonstrated much-appreciated
contributions in developing Sound City.
Sound City retails a full line of electronics, from home theater
systems (large-screen TVs with surround-sound speakers), custom
mobile and audio/video car security systems, and DVDs/TV screens
for car installation, to standard CDs and DVDs, digital cameras,
camcorders, 35mm cameras, and personal audio equipment. The
Sorbara brothers are Authorized Dealers of such well-known,
high-end electronics makers as Alpine, Polk, Denon, Sony and
Panasonic, to name a few, and Authorized Service Centers for
the Harman Group; JBL; Harman Kardon, and Infinity.
“Some
things don’t change,” said Grazio Sorbara. “Our
commitment is, and always has been, to our customers. We constantly
work to provide them with better prices and in giving them
personal attention.”
The Bayonne Town Center Management Corporation, which
sponsors the ribbon-cutting, is a non-profit organization,
which manages the day-to-day operations of the district between
17th and 30th Streets. Its mission is improving and enhancing
the businesses within those areas. In addition to revitalizing
the area, the corporation is also responsible for providing
public relations, advertising, and business recruitment and
retention for area merchants. For further information about
the Town Center, please call 201-339-9409
