SEASONS HOME ACCENTS & GIFTS OF BAYONNE
WELCOMES NEW CUSTOMERS TO ITS ‘HOME’

BAYONNE, NJ – November 8, 2002 – Open a scant month, Bayonne Town Center’s newest edition to its family, Seasons Home Accents & Gifts, waited until their ‘company’ felt ‘at home’ to have its housewarming – the ceremonial ribbon-cutting was held on Thursday, November 14th at 11:30a.m.

Seasons Home Accents & Gifts, at 14 East 22nd Street in Bayonne, is located within New Jersey’s Urban Enterprise Zone and is UEZ-certified , meaning items carry only a 3 percent sales tax. This specialty store is the creation of Nancy Madsen, former owner of Candle Cottage, a popular Bayonne business for the past six years. Originally in partnership with her brother Richard, Ms. Madsen decided to strike out on her own after developing that successful business with him.

“Having a business is not new to me,” said Seasons owner Nancy Madsen. “I realized that there wasn’t other competition for a home accessories business, plus my customers had a chance to put the ‘face with the place’- from my former business, Candle Cottage. I had a good rapport with that store.”

Good customer rapport happened “by listening to my customers from the previous business.” That rapport now has the potential of translating Seasons Home Accents & Gifts into another successful business for Nancy because “you tend to pick up what their needs are, and try to help by giving good ideas with their home décor problems.”

‘TIS THE SEASONS – Bayonne Mayor Joseph V. Doria (second from left), Council President Vincent Lo Re (far left) and Second Ward Councilman John Halecky (second from right) joined Nancy Madsen and her husband Bill at the Grand Opening of her new store, Seasons Home Accents & Gifts, a specialty store geared toward seasonal home items such as pillows, potpourri and wall hangings. Seasons is Madsen’s second endeavor, having been former co-owner of The Candle Cottage. On right is Bernie Golomb, chairman of the Bayonne Town Center.

A self-expressed person with “a lot of creativity,” Nancy set out to establish Seasons retail venture with accent tables, tapestries, pillows, prints for walls, and gifts. Priced from the high end to the low, a majority of the merchandise is “Made in the USA” – specifically the textiles, tapestries, doilies, lace runners, mugs, and stack wallpapered boxes.

Taking over a 2,000 square foot former deli and turning it into 1,200 square feet of warm and welcoming selling area proved to be a creative act, as well. “My husband Bill is a great help and support, building all the display cabinets himself. The old deli was vacant three or four years, and I knew I wanted to present all my merchandise with enough room for customers to move, making them feel at home. To do that, we wallpapered the walls and painted them with warm, inviting colors.” And naturally reflecting its owner Nancy Madsen, Seasons’ décor displays a warm, inviting personality.

The Bayonne Town Center Management Corporation, which sponsors the ribbon-cutting, is a non-profit organization, which manages the day-to-day operations of the district between 17th and 30th Streets. Its mission is improving and enhancing the business within those areas. In addition to revitalizing the area, the corporation is also responsible for providing public relations, advertising, and business recruitment and retention for area merchants.
