How long have you been doing what you do?

 

 

Eating healthy was part of my life from before I was born. My mother was into whole, natural food WAY before it was trendy. In the summer we always ate fresh vegetables from our garden and in the winter we ate these same vegetables that she had canned herself. The joke in my family (to this day!) is my mother asking me when I was a child if I wanted wheat germ on my breakfast cereal – that was a “treat”!

Of course I rebelled and ate as many spaghetti-o’s and oreo’s and any other type of junk food-o’s while at a friend’s house and any other chance I got. But, ultimately, the joke was on me when it all caught up with me in my 20’s and that is where my story of becoming a Nutrition Counselor comes full circle and brings me to the place of believing that each and every person deserves to live a full, healthy life.

Why should I work with a Nutrition Counselor?
   

The United Health Foundation - in partnership with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)  - urges you to take charge of your health; to not just rely on the latest diet book, but work with a professional to determine if you have a health concern, assess your health history and personal eating and exercise habits.

    Changing your food, changes your life. I have seen this proven over and over again, so most likely even if I haven’t worked with your specific concern your body will benefit from discovering which foods work best for you as well as additional ways of nourishing yourself.     I know I need to change things about my health and my life, but I am not sure exactly what. How do I figure it out?
       

    Discovering what parts of your life need adjusting in order for you to get the results that you want will be a large part of our time together, but the following list of questions will give you a jump start on identifying those areas in your life that may need some care and attention.

  • When was the last time you felt healthy?

  • Do you get a good nights sleep most of the time?
  • What do you do to de-stress?

  • How are you different from a “nutritionist” or a “registered dietician”?
       

    Similar to a nutritionist or a registered dietician, I specialize in the study of food and nutrition in relation to health, however what makes my work special is I individually tailor my programs to fit each client’s unique health and lifestyle needs. I am able to do this by committing the time to learning the real "ins and outs" of each of my clients needs instead of working off of a standardized prescription of food groups and calorie percentages. This allows both myself and my clients to discover what works best for their health, their lifestyle and what is needed to make the changes stick for a lifetime. I like to think of it like teaching a person to fish; they then can go out and fish for themselves and don’t need me with them every time to do it! I am compassionately committed to each of my clients getting their desired results.

    Do you accept health insurance?
       

    The United States Health Insurance industry does not yet recognize the value of preventive care however, your body will know the difference. What you will receive from an Individual Health Program is personalized preventive care. You will learn how to care for your body in such a way that as a result you will get sick less and experience healthy energy more often… for the rest of your life. This will save you so much money by reducing unnecessary flu shots, purchase of over the counter medication and prescription drugs, diet after diet paraphernalia, various weight programs as well as numerous topical beauty products.

    What type of personality do you work best with and what is expected of me?
       

    Individual Health Programs were created for people who are committed to dramatically improving their health and ending what I like to call the “Body-Mind Battle” , meaning, constantly second guessing oneself over what is “good” or “bad” food or making a food choice and then thinking, “I shouldn’t have eaten that. Oh, well, I will go to the gym tomorrow so that will cancel it out.” You will experience a Nutrition and Life Transformation – not lose 20 pounds to just gain it back because you became tired of counting how many points your food is worth.

    Being a believer myself, I work best with other believers who are more than ready to live the healthy life that they know they deserve and are willing to make an investment in themselves to do this.

    Think about our work together as one of your most important life decisions. You will be expected to take that decision seriously and commit 110% to a totally different way of thinking about your food and your life. No more excuses, just good living as you receive my support in achieving the exciting goal of having a healthy body and a calm mind that will last you a lifetime.

    What type of person is this program NOT going to work for?
       

    Please know that I am very selective in who I work with. I choose to suggest alternatives for people who are not suited for this program and won't get the results that they signed up for. It's important to me that people get the results that they want; we all deserve to be at our 100% of health.

    Individual Health Programs are NOT for those who over-worry about finances. It's my experience that people who are overly obsessed about their money-life are not able to invest in making an incredible life change and do not commit to the recommendations I give them and do not do the work needed to get the results they desire - usually because they are so distracted by their financial life. If this applies to you, no worries. We've all been in times of financial crisis at one point or another. Here are some things that you can do in the meantime:

    • Prepare to invest in yourself. Just as you would for purchasing a house, begin to put stock in your body - the most important home of your lifetime. Financial faith is an important element of overall health.

    • Sign up for my free Nutrition Newsletter. The information will give you an insight into the unique quality of Individual Health Programs until you are ready to work with me one-on-one.

    • Join me for one of my free Health Food Store Tours, Nutrition Keynotes or Wellness Workshops. These events will give you a lot of information to work with and think about.

    Taking these steps will really help you prepare for our work together. And when you are ready, call me and we'll get started. (I'm in no rush and will be here when you need me).

    Another type of person I won't work with (no exceptions) is the person who is actually resistent to changing, makes excuses for not following recommendations and feels the need to challenge all aspects of the program. If you are one of these people, I kindly ask you to look into another nutrition option. We will probably not work well together and I wouldn't want you to waste your time, energy or money.

    What are the excuses people use for not being healthy?
       

    I have heard many excuses for people not making their health a priority. The top ten I hear are:

    • "I'm not sure where to start."
    • "I'm a busy person; I don't have time to give attention to my health."
    • "My life is in transition."
    • "I just don't have the energy for it."
    • "I don't feel great, but it's not like I'm dying."
    • "I don't have time to exercise."
    • "Everyone in my family is this way."
    • "You gain weight when you get older, that's all there is to it."
    • "Everything I try doesn't work."
    • "No one else would understand how I feel."

    I've heard a lot more and everytime I think, "You don't HAVE to feel the way you do anymore." If you recognize these excuses or have others of your own I am here to tell you that change is possible, there is hope, and I am here to help.

    How exactly does an Individual Health Program work?
       

    An Individual Health Program follows the steps of The Nutrition and Life Transformation Program and operates on two levels:

    First, we use Food-Based Exploration to discover what foods work best for you. Clients learn how to eat to remove digestive blocks and re-energize their body.  In the process, you will learn how to understand the messages your body is trying to send you, the biochemical impact of food on your body's organs, and the energetic issues associated with your food intake.

    Secondly,  we develop Life Nourishment and Balance to ensure that all areas of your life are supporting you in the best way possible.  During each session you will receive recommendations connected to all aspects of your life - from food, to exercise, home life and spirituality - in order to assist in your continued healing and getting the results that you desire.

    How quickly can I expect results?
       

    Obviously, this depends on how much attention you give to your Individual Health Program, your weekly recommendations and the choice to improve your life. That said, typically clients see results within the first couple of months in the form of more energy, an understanding of what foods they need and when, a new perspective about food and nourishment, increased metabolism and improved sleep... all elements of a healthy base to lead to even greater results.

    How can I guarantee myself that I will get a healthy body and calm mind, to last a lifetime?
       

    Follow all of your recommendations. Show up for all of your nutrition counseling sessions. Be on time. Be completely focused on your health for one year. Understand that it's not a "quick fix", it's not a magic pill and good health takes time to build. All of my clients who have diligently applied every step of the Nutrition and Life Transformation Program have successfully improved their health, with lasting results.

    How will we work together and what does the program consist of?
       

    If accepted into the program, you will receive: total support from me via one-on-one personal email and phone calls, a full copy of resource materials, session-to-session recommendations, worksheets, referrals, articles, useful websites,health resources, a reading list, food samples, beauty products and one-on-one sessions with me to connect all of it together and to help you to understand your own needs, as well as keep you on track and accountable so that you achieve your results faster than you ever would on your own.

    Why are Individual Health Programs 6 months long?
       

    Based on my experience of working with numerous clients over the years, it takes at the very least 6 months for all the discoveries we make together, nutrition and health information you take in, and transformations you make to "STICK." In the past, we found that clients who stayed for shorter periods of time were certainly experiencing healthy results right away, BUT were never getting to experience the ability to make their changes STAY a part of their lives by doing things consistently and applying healthy systems over a period of time. Their health results never had a chance to get fully implemented and therefore did not remain consistent. So, wanting lasting results for you, I now only offer this program in 6-month increments. Good health is something you build.

    Do people ever re-up?
       

    Yes. People find that, to build good health to sustain over time, a second wave of nutrition work is very helpful. Many clients have done this and have continued to say that the twice a month "check-in" helps keep them accountable and they experience additional benefits as a result.

    What are your nutrition programs like?
       

    You have 2 different programs to choose from, depending on how quickly you want to receive results, how much time you to work with me directly, or based on your budget level.

    The Fast Track Program:

    • Four 1 hour sessions per month, for six months.
    • * Phone Program Available

    This program was created for individuals who want to make extraordinary changes with their health and lifestyle and want to see results very quickly. This is the most popular program and creates the best results by far. With this option, we schedule four solid one hour sessions per month, one per week, to get you moving more quickly than you ever would on your own, stay on a fast track and eliminate all obstacles in improving your health, losing weight, healing an ailment and creating more ease in your life than you have now. Articles, recipes, books, handouts, and food and beauty samples.

    The Basic Program:

    • Two 1 hour sessions per month, for six months.
    • * Phone Program Available

    Created for the individual who needs less time with their nutrition counselor and works best with additional time to process information. This program was created for individuals who want to make extraordinary changes with their health and lifestyle, but feel they don’t need as much coaching with me to do this and don’t need to see results as quickly. Articles, recipes, food samples and handouts included.

    Yes, and as a matter of fact, we only accept credit cards (modern technology and all... so no more the "check's in the mail").

    OK, I know which program I want. How do we get started?
       

    That's great! Did you know that successful people are able to follow three important steps: Direction, Balance and Belief? They know the direction they need to move and then take educated risks to do just that. It's a well-known fact that these people follow their instinct to continuously move them in a direction that is beneficial to success in their overall life.     I have a busy life. I want to take care of myself and my health badly, but I don't have too much time. How much time do I need?
       

    If you can spare one hour a week, you will be able to take just one small step a week, or discover one small thing about yourself and your nutrition, plus s bit of time for eating and grocery shopping (but wouldn't you really do that anyway?) and then any extra time to read something new and exciting every once and awhile. Know that this approach will take longer than if you give it your all, but even one small step at a time is going to add more energy and passion to your work, relationships and your life. You can't arrive if you don't ever start. I know for myself that everything I try and learn is far better than staying in the same, feeling bad place.

    I have a busy life now and I definitely did when I first started giving attention to nourishing my life. I know that it has changed my life and I have seen it change countless others. The question is: How badly do you want to feel better? If you want it a lot, you will find time for it.
